PINK CLOUD – installation by Rada Yakova, 2021, steel mesh, mixed media

see #PinkCloudBlast from 30th of October in Regional history museum, Ruse, as part of the traveling exhibition “WHY IN THE WORLD BULGARIAN ART?!”

The pink cloud is an artistic expression of the thirst for positivism. It is full of the dreams of each one of us, with our desire to be recognized, to be seen and part of the big great. It carries all these longings and is ready to explode above our heads at any moment, flooding us with love and faith in that which is better. It is an expression of freedom and a human unburdened by his/her vices. There is no envy, no vanity, no attachments and dependencies in the pink cloud. It does not bear the brunt of the awkward story and is not moved by the direction of the wind. It is created by the chaos of the creative spirit and nothing more.

The pink cloud is a gift for those who want to capture in their hands the power of hope, longing and dream that art brings with it.

  • A court battle in France over a drawing by Leonardo da Vinci

A court battle in France over a drawing by Leonardo da Vinci

Full text in English from The Art Newspaper see here

A lawsuit has been filed against France’s culture ministry by the owner of a Leonardo da Vinci drawing who has been blocked from selling it and shipping it abroad.

The small, brown ink drawing, titled Étude pour un Saint-Sébastien dans un paysage (Study for a Saint Sebastian in a landscape, around 1478-83), was initially valued in 2016 by the French auction house Tajan at between €20,000-€30,000. When several experts deemed it to be a genuine Da Vinci, the value shot up to €15m.

Shortly afterwards, it was declared a “national treasure”, a classification which forbade it from being exported and provided the culture ministry with 30 months to acquire it on behalf of the Musée du Louvre.

  • Party Animals by Iliyana Kancheva now in DEPOO

Party Animals by Iliyana Kancheva now in DEPOO

Depoo Gallery & ЗА {обичайте} София presents: THE DARK IS NEVER TOO MUCH (series of exhibitions in which the artists will welcome the public in close look up with the art)
The firs exhibition of this series is the collection by ILIYANA KANCHEVA – Party Animals,
which first was presented on the 5new Auction The Secrets.
The exhibition in Depoo Gallery, in Sofia can be seen between 20 – 27 July, 2021
Meet the artists on the Vernissage on June 20, 18:00-20:00 h

Party Animals series is captured in the wilderness of the Black Sea beach, out of season. It is this strange quiet mood and the absent usual nightlife for this popular beach between Cocoa Beach and Hotel Kuban in Sunny Beach, attracts the attention and the lens of Iliyana Kancheva. The paradox of the place, without the tourist influx, is captured in a total of 12 frames. The original photographs, which captured the effects of the pandemic attack and the endangered species of “party beasts”.
Light buildings or high-rise constructions erected on the unstable foundation of golden, soft, fine Black Sea sand are the ugly emblem of this struggle. The failed design, torn nylons and haphazard landscape are in stark contrast to the impressive blue and gold background of the sea. In order to bring out this anti-image, Iliyana Kancheva processes the collection of collected photos by cutting out only those strong, somewhat ugly, somewhat charming, and sometimes absurd examples of the slow and prolonged destruction of our impressive natural resources.
The transfer of the image sealed through the lens on an ordinary white towel, and it is selectively cut and shown, is only the most important opposition to the classical form, in which the work is valuable. Only in the background comes the souvenir, a pale imitation, for mass use, on everyday objects – pencil, notebook, cup… In Party Animals this discourse on value is turned upside down – the repeatedly overexposed image on a household item is the work of high value, and to it as a free addition, as a cheap cross-promotion, the original source of inspiration is provided – the natural landscape. The towel bears the symbols of our occult-uralized Black Sea coast, of the cloned images that scatter the sand for months every year to leave behind a grotesque natural picture. Places like Cocoa Beach and other unexpected buildings and light structures on our sea are already a household name, which for years shows why in this collection the towel with distorted reality is a valuable artifact to the sea set and nature is only an additional free gift.
The Party Animals collection consists of a set of collage prints on a towel and the original image in the form of a framed photo printed on photo paper. Each of the “summer sets” has a circulation of up to 10 copies.

  • URBAN CULTURE

    URBAN CULTURE

    – All the things you never expect to happen to you

This month’s 5new auction is dedicated to urban culture and in order to make it properly multifaceted, we have invited five authors, strongly connected with the city and its cultural oddities. From architecture, through collage, to urban cycling life, in search of entertainment, captured moments of social relations, to the Asian anthropo and zoomorphic chaos – all this is the urban culture that is served to us on a plate, with chopsticks, in a required African restaurant, in a small slum. How Kaloyan Iliev – Kokimoto, Liana Dimitrova, Veselin Damyanov – Ves, Evgeni Vatsov | FINGAH, arch. Vasko Kashukeev interprets the topic URBAN CULTURE in our new auction, see here.

Viewing days start from 24th of June. Auction starts on 27th of June until 11th of July

    Kaloyan Iliev – Kokimoto #126
    Maneki Neko – Tiger

There is something incredibly appealing about a city vibe and in those vibrations and feelings that a city creates. It is as if we become addicted to the noise, to the volatility, to the incessant buzzing around us. The urban environment constantly poses new challenges to us – how to hop over the wheelstop, not to step on the shifted tile, to kindly wave to a friend, hurrying to the tram stop, how to not be late, how to combine tasks, how to split seconds, how to find a place for love and a place for social contacts, when everything is overcrowded and full of strings of people…

    Veselin Damyanov – Ves #131

    He is

Every new day in the city is like a new battle from the great war of life. And at the end of each city day we feel like real heroes – winners who have managed to get back to their fortress. To shelter for the night in our cozy homes, for which we exert so much effort to preserve, to build it – to be modern, fresh, to charge us, so that we can throw ourselves into that urban battle again with new strength. All the action raises our adrenaline and we just adore this environment, we need it, we look for it and when we leave it even for a short time for a mini-vacation in the countryside or to the mountains or to the sea we miss it more and more. Addicted to this chaos, we can’t wait to get back into the hustle and bustle. Because time does not stop there.  On the contrary.  In the city time flies at breakneck speed, we can hardly even catch it. And when we finally manage to ride it, we feel charged and inspired.

But the urban environment is dangerous. Today that thing that is in fashion will not be tomorrow. If we do not pay attention to the picture and do not hold fast we can fall into a black hole, find ourselves in another reality and be spit out of the carousel of the urban moment in a head-on collision of cultures and differences. In search of love and understanding, we can find ourselves in loneliness and alienation. Rather than be inspired, we can feel defeated by our dreams. The city allows us to put on and change masks, to be different every day and still keep our identity.

    Liana Dimitrova
    #141 Direction & #144 Should I go out

Mass reproduction and cheap imitation of urban culture is impossible. It is a phantasmagoria that is happening in the moment and if we don’t catch it, it disappears from our memories forever. Fortunately, the 25 original works by Kaloyan Iliev – Kokimoto, Liana Dimitrova, Veselin Damyanov – Ves, Evgeni Vatsov | FINGAH, arch. Vasko Kashukeev actually managed to do just that – to capture the moment with the lure of their own individual artistic approach. These selected works for URBAN CULTURE do not complement each other, do not blend, are not perceived as a stream of events and are not a part of the development and growth of their creators. They are independent artistic sentences and phrases, accidentally heard and scattered around the city.

We came across them and they came across us. We broke off a small piece of the city wall painted in different layers with colorful graffiti to show how many different plots a hot summer urban day can contain.

  • The Secrets

    The Secrets

    The Secrets –

“I know one thing, but please don’t tell anyone!”

With this month’s auction, we decided to challenge the truth. The secret is not the absence of truth, but it’s unspoken, silent presence. Probably we have all experienced this breath, which tells us that there is something tiny or big, always silent, always unveiled. Today we live in a world of dreams, illusions, ready-made and filtered images, set situations and powdered mythologies, which are served to us from every corner of public life for breakfast, lunch and dinner. These intrusive symbolisms, which always have something to tell us and always try to convince us of their rightness – to listen to them, to follow them, to be like them…, they build a special mysterious world, which we gradually allow in our personal space.

Awkward situation, Martin Penev, 2021, textile, silicone down, wood, plastic, faucets

The hardest thing for us today is to be honest! In front of ourselves and the world. We are constantly given thousands of opportunities to hide and erase small details about the great truth – that we grow old, that we are not the only ones, the chosen ones, that we will not escape the consequences of our actions, that we always remain alone when we look inside our soul. These small details become secrets, accumulate and finally scatter the trust of endless pieces. They also shatter our beliefs, our dreams and the imaginary world, which we diligently build with tiny pieces of secret material.

“Secrets” is rather a critical auction that addresses precisely this issue and the great challenge of trust, of faith in art, free from secrets and forgeries, free from the dangers of being something that is not, to try and to erase the wrinkles of our face or to cover up some state bribes, with pre-set myths and expectations, with the promise for better times.

The series Party Animals by Iliyana Kancheva, 2021 is specially developed for 5new
Martin Penev’s works with textiles are a new and fresh look at techniques in art
A puzzle or another reading of the idea of man and the human in the works of Emilia Emilova

You have probably already noticed that one of the most characteristic things about Secrets is that they always light up like wooden sticks on the surface. Even well-kept secrets find their way to the bright side and lift themselves from the depths of our social order to bring a lot of confusion, chaos and most of all to have fun on our backs with the paradoxes which they create. But did you know that secrets face a huge danger of extinction?! Today, in a world where everyone is tracked, recorded, registered and coded everywhere, it is almost impossible to produce, keep and strictly defend a secret. Therefore, in an effort to preserve the special character of this habitual, natural human practice known as “I’ll tell you, but don’t tell to anyone” – we decided to show you 25 secret works that you should not show to anyone else! They all have special stories, hidden details about their creation and know more about their authors than anyone else in the world. These works will never reveal the secrets of their creators, unless you take them with you. There they will reveal everything to you in the smallest of details. As long as you promise to keep this new knowledge just for your own use, of course.

Personal space, Emilia Emilova, 2019, etching, aquatint, drypoint

Secrets can be harmless, funny, curious, dangerous, big, insignificant, personal, social… all types. But every secret carries an information code, similar to the annoying piece of the puzzle that is always lost and missing somewhere. We see the whole picture with that gap  and although we know intuitively what should be filling the empty space, this missing element irritates our senses, maintains our interest and curiosity, provokes us to dig and search for the little lost piece. Like forest fireflies on a dark summer evening, secrets play with us. We think they illuminate the direction in the darkness when they actually just hang around to tease our imagination. Their alluring light offers us a dream that after the darkness of ignorance comes initiation – the insight into the secrets, the comprehension of the meaning, the arrangement of the whole picture. But isn’t this just an empty promise?

The series Party Animals is a combination of two works printed on textiles (beach towel), mixed media and framed photography.
What is the place we call home, what does it bring us and what does it take away from us, where do we leave pieces of memories in the works of Plamen Madjarov

With the new auction we tell you about 25 secrets of our five new artists to enlighten you in their art world. You can see the works of Emilia Emilova, Iliyana Kancheva, Kalina Hristova, Martin Penev and Plamen Madjarov from May 20 to June 6 here. Days for viewing and direct sale of some of the paintings are from 20 to 23 May

Can you keep the secret and not tell anyone about this?

  • 5 TECHNIQUES TO IMPROVE YOUR LIFE WITH ART

5 TECHNIQUES TO IMPROVE YOUR LIFE WITH ART

Author: Petya Chalakova; Translation: Amy Chapman. Cover photo: Rada Yakova, Yellow, 2021
    First published in https://sanusetsalvus.com/

The new auction of the online platform 5new is entirely dedicated to the very special color yellow. “Illumination” is associated with the symbolism that often in different cultures expresses our joy, happiness and attachment to light. This month’s five paintings by the 5new artists: Desislava Unger, Rada Yakova, Sasho Stoitzov, Slav Nedev and Philip Vencken reenforce this belief that the color yellow brings the feeling of sunrise, warmth of a sunny day and a spring fresh mood in our souls. The yellow theme is entirely inspired by the colorists at Pantone.com selection of Illuminating 13-0647 and nevertheless strives to show the diverse and rich world of yellow as a choice for our interior and exterior surroundings.  We’d like to share these 5 techniques where art (and color) helps us to feel better:

According to the ancient Chinese art of harmonizing energy Qi – Feng Shui, colors always affect us at a strong individual level, having the ability not only to change our mood, but also to lead to real actions such as increased motivation, the desire to work.

It can also have the opposite effect of creating that soothing feeling of coziness and comfort. This superpower of all colors has been used in color therapy for years. Undoubtedly, colors are a strong source of energy and are also a good provocateur for one of our most developed senses – sight. Of course, it has been scientifically proven that everyone perceives the light spectrum in their own unique way, but for some of the colors (and especially for the three main ones) there are usually common understandings in different cultures about their meaning and influence. However, the characteristic of blue, red and yellow, on which all the others of a rich palette are built, is that they are always of dual meaning. When found in different contexts and shades with the presence and absence of light (higher presence of white or higher presence of black), these colors can carry both positive and negative symbolism. Here are a few examples.

Slav Nedev, Value (one of a kind art object), 2018

Blue is often associated with purity, freedom, truth, goodness, nobility (in its paler shades) as a reference to the sky and the color blue, but also with sadness, death, unhappiness, in shades with a higher content of black.

Red has always been the color of love, but also of passion, and in its even stronger form – of rage and devastating forces.

Yellow is the bearer of the greatest wealth – light, and hence the Sun, joy, warmth, luck and happiness. These positives, which have been attributed including the golden color, and the precious metal itself since ancient times. At the same time, however, at its other extreme, this color is associated with greed, anger, malice, and all the human baseness that results from the poverty of the soul.

In Indian culture, which has been dealing with the question of human harmony for centuries, through the movement of our inner energy centers called “Chakras” (Sanskrit or translated as “wheels”) – yellow drives the Manipura chakra (the so-called Third Chakra “, located from the navel to the solar plexus).

This energy wheel is responsible for our will, for the release of energy through the eternally burning fire inside us and according to the yogis, it’s balance is very important because its excessive use or its too strong “ignition” can disrupt human health, cause personal crises and feelings of irresistible anger, which (as described in Hindu culture) eats us from within.

The understandings of the impact of colors on our health are numerous and multifaceted, but a good and successful artist always manages to capture this ambivalence in his works and to recreate an impactful image that nourishes our spiritual thrills. Of course, it often happens that we are in such a special inner mood, whether due to mental state or physical reasons, that we just suddenly feel overwhelmed by the image on the canvas. Then the magic of art happens – its special power, which through the influence of the image and the light and shadows, the nuances and the materials used manages to communicate with us directly, without an intermediary.

    Sasho Stoitzov, COVERS 5, 2020
    Sasho Stoitzov, COVERS 4, 2020

Usually, the gate to this communication opens through our senses, and most often in the fine arts it is the visual apparatus.

The paintings are the highest expression of this special direct communication between man and creative creativity, which combines the light of the whole color palette. In this way one does not deprive one of the investments in the color palette of meanings and does not exclude any of their symbolism. This gives an even more harmonious reading of the picture and allows us to look at things from the sides, to immerse ourselves in them, armed with full knowledge and, above all, with an independent view. This is the moment of contemplation. It is different from watching and observing.

Contemplation is an almost meditative process in which we can afford to experience pure, unforced emotions, to be free from everyday expectations, from the idea of shame and obscenity, from the feeling of belonging.

The opportunity to enjoy the feeling of complete freedom of our emotions every day, through our sensory apparatus, not only reduces stress and anxiety, but also increases our quality of life, making ourselves calmer, balanced and confident.

Desislava Unger, Disappearance attempt 4, 2019
Desislava Unger, Disappearance attempt 3, 2019

Symbolism, semantics and color theory come into our lives through science and philosophy (among the works of Newton and Goethe, for example) as a means of communication between us and our environment.

They are very clearly manifested through art as one of the most direct ways to take advantage of the power of color compositions, of light and shadow, to get a sense of aesthetic pleasure, to understand in depth the principles of light refraction. All this largely determines our entire social order – including our sense of architecture, illustration, design, and everything in the field of applied arts or any thing in our lives first passes through our understanding and perception of art, color combination and composition of images. This philosophical and private scientific knowledge allows us to achieve personal independence, to make informed decisions based on our own critical thinking and to draw logical conclusions in order to achieve better results in personal and social terms.

    Philip Vencken, Composition 4, 2020
    Philip Vencken, Composition 2, 2020

All this is wonderfully captured by each of the artists on the site 5new and recreated in their works dedicated to the power of yellow. No matter which doctrine of harmony in life we will rely on, which cultural doctrine and which common understandings of symbolism in the world – art has been and will always remain a mediator for the relationship between the world around us and our pure emotion. It is the sense of our spirituality and gives us the opportunity to believe, dream and strive for a better state of personality. The original works once again confirm the diversity of our perceptions – some like and see the shade of yellow in one way, others perceive it in another. The task of the artist here is to satisfy the hunger of the soul of anyone who seeks this ray of light in his surroundings. After all, if yellow had a motto, it would probably be the Latin saying that seeks to answer the question “what people should want from life”,

namely “Mens sana in corpore sano” (or in translation “Healthy spirit in healthy body”). To this we dedicate the works from the Illumination auction, at 5new.org, which you can view and bid until May 9 inclusive.

    Be healthy!

  • ILLUMINATION – the highlight of colors

ILLUMINATION – the highlight of colors

Inspired by Pantone.com palette color for 2021 – ILLUMINATING (colorN13-0647)

Auction starts on 25th of April and will end on 9th of May. Viewing days are open from 22nd of April.

“Illumination” is a colorful, fresh auction, inspired by the color of 2021, determined by colorist experts from Panton.com. You can check who they are and why they are important here through this link.

We saw the clear, strong yellow and fell in love with its message. The original color number for 2021 is ILLUMINATING (colorN13-0647). In this shade of yellow range we found a fierce struggle and desire for action, the provocation of a new life, but also the soothing note of joy that tells us “Everything will be alright!”

Yellow is the main color and is visible due to the refraction of white sunlight. Undoubtedly, this carries a lot of symbolism, which different cultures capture in different ways. On the one hand it is a symbol of the Sun, without whose light and warmth life is impossible, on the other hand it is associated with separation and even hatred. The range of emotions that this color evokes in us is extremely wide, but nevertheless one of the most common is that of happiness and joy.

In our daily lives, yellow is often used as a signal for attention! Neither good nor bad. Just something that is important to see, to pay attention to, not to miss. With the selection of the new 25 works, tied to the ambivalent nature of this highly controversial color, we want to make another direct connection between you and art. We tried to show a spectacle of hot orange passions (obtained by combining yellow with red), as well as balanced green strokes, the result of the love between yellow and blue. We tried to see where the values are located in the color palette – in the filter element of our desires or in the nugget of pure 24 carat gold, in the soft touch of light or in the coverage of our expectations.

Each artist’s color palette is different, as are our colorful characters. That is why the relationships we build with individual works are different. Among the selected works of artists Desislava Unger, Rada Yakova, Sasho Stoitsov, Slav Nedev and Filip Venken there are some with which you can share the joy of life and those to whom you can tell your saddest moments. There are also those with which you can think long on philosophical issues and those with which to indulge in relaxation and relaxation.

One thing is for sure, however, with this auction we want to take you on a journey into the world of colors – where they all merge into unity. Imagine that you are in an open meadow, your body is relaxed, you have fallen into an almost meditative dream. You close your eyes and the strong rays of the sun penetrate through the skin of your eyelids. You know that this beam of light will blind you if you dare to open your eyes for just a second. It would be too strong for your fragile senses. So be careful! To gather all the colors in one clear image, go through the freshness of the yellow range now.
