“Draw me a woman” – from desire to contemporary
Auction starts on 25th of March and will end on 11th of April. Viewing days are open from 18th of March.
“Draw my woman” is a special auction in which we direct the spotlight to the works of five prominent Bulgarian artists – Stefan Bozhkov, Yonko Vassilev (YO\KO), Yordan Pankov (J.PANK) Georgi Marinov (Horhe) and Rosen Markovski. In their longlasting practice, they, for one reason or another, are attracted to the female image, but far beyond its generally accepted literal framework. You will not see a glorifying image of the woman in this auction. That is not our goal.
Our topic covers the field of dreaming of a muse, to seek solace in the night, to be excited by femininity and warmth by the image, to recreate through matter the sweet urge of desire, to see the social order in things, to master the field and subtleties of detail , which create the delicate image and at the same time keep the strength and powerful energy that the feminine carries within itself.
It all started with asking why and when men paint women. We considered how to put together a collection of the female image. With this endeavor we faced a closed road. It turned out that it is not so easy to summarize the woman in one sentence, in one picture or in one collection. There will always be something missing, we will always miss some important detail from the essence of the topic. We have seen that this topic cannot have a common denominator. It also turned out that it is not only the woman at the heart of things, but all her features and traits. We saw the subject grow to life, in the female gender. That’s why we decided that the collection for the March auction, although trivially viewed by the woman, should be dedicated to the image – from passion to modernity.
The works of the five Bulgarian artists have been carefully selected to unfold the theme “Draw me a woman” in this contemporary way, which tells long stories of gratitude, enjoyment, excitement, aspiration, lightness, inspiration and many more of the relationships that build the relationship between man and art. At the heart of this relationship, we did not accidentally place the woman as a source and as an aspiration.
More about the selected art works
The five artists are very different in their style and approach to the topic. Each of them offered five of his works through which he interpreted his desire to connect with the diverse images of the female. Above all, however, for us the most important was the personal participation of each of the five in the auction as significant artists in the field of Bulgarian contemporary art, who paint women and are influenced by the female motif. Therefore, the new auction is dedicated much more to them as individuals and artists with an original style and strong individuality. This made the March auction colorful and diverse – just like life, from birth to the very end.
